Ego Authority places the Heart/Ego center at the helm of your decisions. This small but mighty motor center governs willpower, self-worth, and material commitments. If it’s defined and no higher-priority authority is present, your decisions are most reliable when rooted in genuine desire and personal investment.

What Is Ego Authority in Human Design?
Ego Authority comes from a defined Heart/Ego center that connects directly to the Throat or G Center. It’s a motor-driven authority based on willpower and the capacity to follow through on promises. Unlike mental reasoning, it asks a simple question: “Is my heart in this?” When the will is genuinely engaged, you can move mountains. This authority is rare, appearing mainly in specific Projector and Manifestor configurations.
Why It Matters
The Heart/Ego center operates in cycles of exertion and rest. Committing to things you don’t genuinely want taxes this center and leads to exhaustion, broken promises, and diminished self-worth. When you honor what your heart truly desires, your natural willpower sustains you through challenges. Ego Authority keeps your commitments authentic and your energy healthy.
How It Works
When a decision arises, tune into your chest area and ask whether you have genuine will and desire for this commitment. A clear sense of wanting—a pull that feels personally valuable and worth the effort—signals yes. Indifference or a feeling of obligation without excitement signals no. This authority is direct and doesn’t require waiting or gut sounds; it’s about honest self-assessment.
How to Use It
Before committing, ask yourself: “Do I really want this? Is my heart in it?” Listen for sincerity rather than shoulds. Allow yourself to be a bit selfish—Ego Authority is designed to serve your personal will first. Rest between major commitments to recharge. Your willpower is a finite resource that works best in purposeful bursts, not constant output.
